Perhaps the Osaka business read Bradbury's "The Hallowe'en Tree" -- also on the confluence of the two traditions.

I know this is completely off topic:

Garr - if you're a "nerd" you are the sexiest nerd alive (especially if showing a photo like the one in this entry). Nerd in my register are always associated with 'not handsome', not well dressed etc. Perhaps you're a 'funky tech freak'?
